Alex Kruger-Dobrota
Founder & CEO, Badger: Operation Gamify
Meet the founder
Alex Kruger-Dobrota
Alex Kruger-Dobrota is a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran and the founder and CEO of Badger: Operation Gamify, the Miami-based interactive social platform that turns real places into missions and connects the people who complete them.
Alex Kruger-Dobrota is the founder and CEO of Badger: Operation Gamify and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who deployed to Afghanistan as a Scout Sniper in 2012. The Marine Corps gave him purpose through the mission and social connection through his unit. When he came home, both were gone, and he had to find a way to rebuild them.
He found that through training and competing in Jiu-Jitsu, which also gave him a third component he hadn’t realized he was missing: joy. That experience confirmed a pattern he had noticed throughout his life. The people who are best at what they do treat it like a game. Because they enjoy it, they keep coming back, and every time they come back, they get a little better. Alex calls it a game-oriented mindset, and he built Badger to bring it to everyone. Badger combines the purpose and connection he knew from the military with the joy that keeps people coming back, and it lets like-minded people find each other through the missions they complete, wherever and whenever they complete them.
Today Alex runs Badger as Founder and CEO from Miami, working with neighborhoods, cities and veteran organizations, including the Wynwood BID, the City of Miami Beach and the VFW Department of Florida, to turn streets, events and communities into Worlds where people take on missions and connect through them. The VFW Department of Florida has partnered with Badger to engage its 54,000 combat veteran members across Florida and Puerto Rico, and VFW National featured Badger at its 2026 National Convention in Reno, including on the cover of the convention magazine.
A member and former Senior Vice Commander of VFW Post 3559 in Miami Beach, Alex has used Badger to support veterans in his community. Badger was used to build an interactive online database of military veterans’ headstones at Miami City Cemetery, the city’s oldest cemetery. A local Girl Scout created it over a year and a half for her Silver Award project, documenting more than 1,700 graves, and it’s now hosted on the Miami Beach VFW website. The project was featured on CNN 10. Alex also organized the Post’s Santa’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) Toys for Tots drive, with Badger as sponsor, which delivered more than 1,500 toys to children in need. For the inaugural Fleet Week Miami in 2024, Badger sponsored and organized the Top Gun Beach Olympics, a military fitness competition at Muscle Beach in South Beach and a main event of Fleet Week sponsored by the City of Miami Beach.

Miami Beach proclamation
May 22 is Alex Kruger-Dobrota Day
The City of Miami Beach proclaimed May 22 as Alex Kruger-Dobrota Day. The date falls just before Memorial Day, and the number 22 has become a symbol of the veterans lost to suicide each day.
Alex lives in South Florida with his wife and their two young sons.
In his words
Why I built Badger
The Marine Corps gave me two things I didn’t fully appreciate until I left: a mission and a brotherhood. The mission gave me purpose, and the brotherhood gave me social connection. When I got out, I lost both at once, and that’s a story a lot of veterans know well.
Rebuilding my life after the military showed me the missing piece: joy. I found it training and competing in jiu-jitsu, and I’d seen it my whole life in the most successful people I knew. They treat what they do like a game. Because they enjoy it, they keep coming back, and every time they come back, they get better. Purpose and connection matter, but joy is what keeps you showing up.
Badger brings all three together. Social media promised connection, but mostly it gives us a feed to watch. I wanted the opposite: a social app that gets you off the couch and into your city. Badger turns real places into missions you can take on whenever it works for you, on your own or with friends. When you complete one, you can see everyone else who has done the same mission, and that shared experience is an easy way to connect. You might meet them at the next mission, or you might connect from across the city or the country. Either way, it starts with something you both actually did.
For the businesses, cities and organizations building on Badger, that means real people walking through real doors. For everyone else, it’s a reason to explore, an excuse to say yes, and a community of people who share your interests. That’s Operation Gamify.

On why he built Badger
My solution is through a social app where you can connect with other people through competition, so you can have those three pillars — joy, social connection, and purpose.
Alex Kruger-Dobrota
via CBS News MiamiOn how organizations use Badger
It’s like a digital command center where I can issue missions and tasks like community service events. You’re able to see which members are doing which task. Through the leaderboards, there’s a sense of friendly competition, because no one wants to be last.
Alex Kruger-Dobrota
via VFW CheckpointOn the mission behind Badger
When I left the Marine Corps, I learned that a good life comes down to three things: living with joy, staying connected to people, and having a purpose. Badger is built to help anyone find all three, one mission at a time.

On what makes Badger different
Most social media asks you to watch. Badger asks you to go. Every mission is a reason to get outside, meet people and see your city differently.

On Badger for businesses and cities
Businesses don’t need more impressions. They need people walking through the door. Badger turns showing up into something people actually want to do.

On the name
The name Badger comes from combining badge and identifier. Also, badgers are my favorite animal.
